PRESIDENT'S REPORT 2025/26

Sailing activities: At the time of reporting, we have provided 1051 clients with an on water experience over 28 operating days. On average 38 disabled clients have been assisted by 38 volunteers each Monday when we operate. Interestingly our numbers have increased in our 4th term which commenced in October 2025, so there is growing demand from the disabled community for a sail in a dinghy or a ride on a pontoon boat. We are holding our 2nd Client race in November, and the winner to receive the inaugural Jacqui McKeering trophy.

AGM Committee: Peter Kearney took over the reins as President from Peter Tyrrell who is now Vice President. Tamara Edmunds is Treasurer and Cheryl Garratt , Secretary. These 4 make up our executive Management team. Additionally  6 committee members assist the Executive team. Philipa Bolt has resigned from the Sailability Shorncliffe Committee after 18 years of dedicated and passionate work assisting our club.

New Volunteers: While volunteer numbers across Australia  have declined at the rate of 10%, we have managed to increase our registered volunteers by 10 since the beginning of February 2025. We now have 60 registered on our books, with an average of 38 turning up each Monday. Our challenge is finding skippers and power boat drivers, however we have training programs in place for those volunteers that would like to skipper the access 303 dinghies.

Grants and Supporters: We have been fortunate to receive 2 major grants this year.

The Lord Mayors Charitable Trust provided $8000 for 12 new slings which are compatible to the size of each client.

The Lilley Volunteers Grant was approved By Anika Wells, and $4000 has been granted to cover our insurance costs for the 25/26 financial year.

The Ubuntu Foundation, Building Approvals and advice, and Energex have generously provided cash to support our operating expenses and volunteer activity throughout the year.

Four new Supporters have joined us, Bar Fridges Australia, who have given us a new fridge to store our drinks, and  MUSTO provided us with Sun safe polos  for our volunteers. Bracken Ridge Lions donated $500 , and Independent Living provided 2 new metal bars for our hoists .

Promotion/Fund Raising: Bracken Ridge Lions have allowed us to run the Bar B Q at their train day on 2 occasions during the year.

We also had  a presentation from Serge Testa  at the QCYC in October , with all the proceeds going to Sailability Shorncliffe

We exhibited at  the Einbunpin Festival, the Bracken Ridge Backyard Bonanza , and the LST All Abilities Colour run in November, all festivals gave us good exposure.
